King Charles cancels engagements after experiencing temporary side effects of cancer treatment

Britain’s King Charles was briefly hospitalized on Thursday due to temporary side effects from his scheduled cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace confirmed. After a short period of observation, the 76-year-old monarch returned to Clarence House, where he has been advised to rest.

As a result, King Charles has canceled his planned engagements for Friday. A statement from the palace expressed his regret, apologizing to those affected by the changes. The King had been scheduled to receive credentials from three ambassadors on Thursday and attend four public events in Birmingham the following day.

A royal source reassured that the King’s condition remains positive, describing this as a minor setback in his ongoing recovery. Despite the side effects, Charles continued working from his study, handling state matters and making phone calls.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are still expected to visit Italy in April, although their planned trip to the Vatican has been postponed due to Pope Francis’ recovery from double pneumonia.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer extended his best wishes to the King, while Queen Camilla did not accompany him to the hospital. Charles was treated at the London Clinic, the same facility where he underwent surgery for an enlarged prostate earlier this year.

Since his cancer diagnosis, Charles has carefully balanced his official duties with his treatment. After briefly stepping back, he resumed engagements, including a visit to a cancer treatment center, where he shared his personal experience with patients and medical staff. The King has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received, describing it as a great source of comfort.

His schedule continues to be managed in consultation with his doctors to ensure his well-being, and he reportedly finds his royal duties beneficial to his overall recovery.
