Qaid-e-Azam Rapid Chess Tournament held in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Latifabad Chess Club in collaboration with Hyderabad Chess Club under the auspices of Hyderabad District Chess Association, Sindh Chess Association organized Qaid-e-Azam Rapid Chess Tournament in Hyderabad on 19th February 2023. The tournament was based on swiss system comprising of 7 rounds. There were the three categories of participants. The 1st category consisted of under 17 boys. The 2nd category consisted of under 17 girls. The third category was seniors(open). In under 17 category for boys Mujtaba Junejo from Beacon House School Qasimabad secured first position. The second position also went to Jumman from the Beacon House Scool Qasimabad. In the under 17 category for girls Shanzey from Rockford School got 1st position whereas Sonal from Public School Hyderabad secured 2nd position.
In the senior category the status of which was open Hafeez Ur Rehman secured 1st position whereas the district vice president of district Hyderabad professor Zubair Ahmed Laghari secured second position. Muhammad Rizwan Qureshi from Karachi got third position in the senior category. All the participants of the tournament were given certificates. The winning candidates were given away cash prizes and trophies in the award distribution ceremony. The chief guest on that occasion was a famous personality of Hyderabad Chambers of Commerce Mr. Nadeem Shaikh who sponsored this event. The chief Arbiter of this tournament was the international chief arbiter Mr. Muhammad Wasif Nisar a renowned Chess Player of Pakistan. At the end of the prize distribution ceremony Mr. Zubair Laghari spoke to the media personnel and insisted upon the Ministry IPC, Pakistan Sports Board and Special Assistant to CM Sindh for sports to allocate sufficient funds for the promotion of this game among the masses. He also requested the authorities to organise many more events in future at Taluka, City, and District level. He also appealed to the authorities that they should make special arrangements and that adequate measures should be taken to engage students of schools, colleges, and universities for their holistic development and also to produce the best of chess players of Pakistan.
