THATTA: The students of Sindh University Thatta Campus staged a demonstration outside the university campus to protest the abrupt hike in University fees here on Thursday. The protesters led by Shan Sattar Qureshi, Ghulam Murtaza Khatti, Ismail Memon, and Luqman Jakhro said that the administration’s decision to increase the fees by 40% is a move to deprive them of their constitutional right to education.
A student, Luqman Jakhro said that their education had already suffered following the global Pandemic and the hike in the fees would further add to their sufferings.
He claimed that this move of the University administration was for their boon. Ghulam Murtaza Khattii said that in the wake of the global epidemic governments of different countries were introducing student-friendly policies to facilitate the students but on the contrary Sindh Government,s anti-students policies were unfathomable adding that this decision had kept the career of many poor students at stake.
Shan Qureshi said that according to the recent fees challan uploaded on the website the fees had been increased by 40percent that was a flagrant injustice to the students who had dreams of a bright future in their eyes. He warned that if the decision was not taken back they would expand the scope of their protest.
Earlier the students took out a rally from the campus to the National Highway where they chanted slogans against University administration and demanded fees as per the previous schedule. The protests were also staged by students of Sindh University main Campus Hyderabad and Laar Campus Badin the other day, against the hike in fees.
