Blackout: After major breakdown, power being gradually restored in cities across Pakistan

The country was plunged into darkness after a major power breakdown in the middle of the night on Saturday, and despite several hours, power has not been fully restored.

According to the spokesperson of Power Division, a fault occurred in Guddu at 11:41 pm due to which the country’s high transmission was tripped and in less than a second the frequency of the system came to 50 to 0 and broke down.

After the breakdown, power plants in the country’s major power plants Jhelum, Mangla and Tarbela were shut down, disrupting the power system in Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Due to the breakdown, Azad Kashmir also sank into darkness.

Officials of the Power Division said that the process of power generation has been started from the units of Tarbela, Mangla and Warsak power houses after which power restoration has started in other places including Islamabad.

‘Sudden break from 50 to 0 caused power breakdown’
A spokesman for the power division said the power breakdown occurred when the frequency in the power transmission system suddenly went from 50 to 0.

A spokesman for the power division said efforts were being made to determine the cause of the fall and that strict action would be taken against those responsible.
