Washington: US President Joe Biden has named Michael Retney as the new US ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

According to media reports, the White House has confirmed the nomination of career diplomat Michael Retney as US ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

Michael Retney has previously served as ambassador to Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco, Qatar and Israel, and has served as US special envoy to Syria.

According to media reports, Michael Retney is the first career diplomat to be appointed ambassador to Saudi Arabia in three decades.

According to media reports, Michael Retney is fluent in Arabic and French, as well as Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Doha, and has also served as a diplomat in Beirut and Baghdad.
