Rohri Municipal Employees threaten to stage indefinite strike if demands not accepted

SUKKUR: Rohri Municipal Employees went on strike for their demands and held a protest sit-in  for eight hours.  Assistant Commissioner Rohri  reached the spot and assured to fulfill the demands. The protest sit-in has been called off. Employees have gone on strike to protest against the non-acceptance of demands by the administration. Hundreds of employees have locked government offices in protest and collected city garbage and brought it in tractor-trolleys outside the officers’ offices and on the premises of the municipal office. Mumtaz Sheikh, Hafeezullah Bhutto, Basheera Hamad Sheikh, Ghulam Shabir Mithiani, President of Staff Workers Union Municipal Committee on the occasion of holding a sit-in at the main gate of the Municipal Office and chanting slogans against the rights and demands of the officers. Kurban Chahjan, Aslam Jagirani and others addressed the gathering He said that for the last several months he had been protesting in support of the demands of complaints from the municipal officers for his legitimate demands and rights but it has not reached the ears of the officers and what could be worse than the annual increment for the last one year. We are not being paid even up to the 10% increase in salaries by the Sindh government. Retired employees are being paid in installments. Unjustified salaries of permanent and temporary employees are being paid. Employees are being mistreated. Instead of deferring their arrears, payments are being made to contractors through fake bills which is a robbery on the rights of employees. The leaders said that if despite our protests, we were not given all the arrears of benefits and facilities. We will expand the scope of our protest. The condition of many employees deteriorated during the protest sit-in which lasted for more than eight hours. Eight hours later, Assistant Commissioner and Administrator Municipal Committee Rohri Nisar Ahmad Abbasi arrived and assured the union leaders to fulfill their legitimate demands. Mumtaz Sheikh, president of the Workers Staff Union, has said that if the difference bill is not paid by Monday, then the protest will be called off.
