KARACHI: Addressing the inaugural function of the Center of Advanced Studies in Renewable Energy (ASURE) at NED University Karachi today, Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh said that the ongoing projects of the Sindh government in the energy sector are self-sufficient in this field. He said that Pakistan spends huge amount of money annually on import of furnace oil. Through the Sindh government’s Thar Coal project, we are not only generating electricity but also planning to get gas, fertilizers and other products from coal.
He said that Sindh Wind Corridor has the potential to meet our energy needs. The Sindh government is working on several projects to generate electricity from wind as well as solar.
Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh assured to provide all resources for the sustainability of NED University’s Center of Advanced Studies in Renewable Energy.
It was informed in the briefing that the purpose of ASURE Assyria is to promote the use of alternative energy sources and for this purpose to provide international level facilities for research, consultancy, testing and certification. It was informed in the briefing that the establishment of Assyria would enhance the links between the academy and the industry and the center would be able to provide the necessary facilities to the industries. Implemented under a public-private partnership between Ashur NED University and PV Lab Pakistan, the center will promote research and collaboration in the field of renewable energy.
Vice Chancellor of NED University Prof. Soroush Hashmat Lodhi, Prof. Saad Ahmad Qazi, Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Aman and others addressed the function.
