Sindh to sign MoU to build a 400 MW power plant

KARACHI: Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh has said that Sindh Energy Department, Engro Energy Limited and a group of Karachi industrialists will soon sign a memorandum of understanding to build a 400 MW power plant to provide cheap and uninterrupted power supply to industries in Sindh especially Karachi.

He said that this power plant based on solar and wind energy would be constructed in Jhampir for which land would be provided by Sindh government and in the first phase this power plant would be based on 50 MW solar and wind power energy which will soon increase its production to 400 MW.

The Sindh Power Department’s Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC) will also install a grid and transmission line to provide uninterrupted power to Karachi’s industries from this power plant.

The Sindh Energy Minister said that the necessary legal issues of the agreement in this regard have been decided in a meeting today and work on the project will start soon after the signing of the MoU
