SHIKARPUR: The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was observed by the SRSO and Help Age International in Shikarpur by taking out a rally to spread awareness amongst the people to bring an end to the injustice to the elderly persons. The Advocacy Communication Officer Sabiha Bhutto, Project Coordinator Mukhtiar Kapri, Sajida Mirani, Abdul Waheed Chang, Tariq Lakhan, Abdul Sami Unar and other community leaders led the rally which marched through different parts of the city. Addressing on the occasion, the speakers said that the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day has been observed worldwide on the 15th June since 2011. They added that the elderly persons are being ignored in every field of life, while Pakistan is on the sixth number amongst those countries. The speakers further said that there are a total 1 crore people in old age and the number will be increased to 4 crores till 2050. The federal and provincial governments have formed laws to protect the rights of the elderly but there is a need to implement those laws so that the due rights could be provided to the elderly persons.
