At least 33 people drowned after a passenger boat capsized in Congo

At least 33 people have been killed and eight others rescued after a passenger boat capsized in the African nation of Congo.

Most of those killed were traders carrying supplies from Uganda when the boat capsized in Lake Albert.

The boat reportedly lost its balance due to strong winds and capsized. The border between the two countries is closed due to Corona, after which this route is being used more for transportation.

Authorities fear the Immigration Department illegally allowed the boat to cross the border.

Lake Albert is thought to be the seventh largest lake in Africa.
