‘Chunnrie’ well known and fascinating dupatta of Badin

BADIN: The popular beautiful designed in different colours with various prints and thread known as “Chunnri” was sold out and purchased by associated business men of Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Sujjawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Mirpurkhas, Bhit Shah and other towns and cities of the province.
The distinctive and fascinating look dupattas in Badin for more than half century and were sold out in different rates from Rs 300 to Rs 1500 for their quality and varieties.
The business estimates Rs one million to two million for micro level. The process of making such dupatta observed so simple but it was so hard from simple white cotton to convert the cloth in yellowish, print, tiding the cloth, beautiful colours and finally thread into different designs to make the dupatta distinctive and elegant. Apart this, very colorful and different varieties of ladies suits were also made by those who were associated with the business in Badin.
The famous ladies suits were sold out at the rate of Rs 1200 to Rs 3500 while dupatta and ladies suits were sold out to wholesalers with discount of 20 to 25 percent.
While talking the owners of the business said they earn about Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 per day during peak season for six months. They said they pay wages to working labourers while tolerate the expensive bills of natural gas and electricity as commercial consumers. They said the art of making these dupattas and ladies suits will fade out owing to the declining demand for the products and minimum profit. They said they could flourish their business if they were supported and encouraged by the government.
