Construction of Thal canal-II will turn Sindh into a barren territory: Jam Khan Shoro

KARACHI: Informing the Sindh Assembly, Provincial Minister for Irrigation Jam Khan Shoro has said that he strongly condemns the proposal of Greater Thal Canal ( Phase Two) by the Federal Government in the meeting of the Planning Commission and opposes the project because it would affect the province. Millions of acres of agricultural land in Sindh will be uninhabited and severe water crisis will also arise. Following completion of Thal canal project, Sindh will become a barren territory and interior of the province will be propelled to the brink of starvation and despondency. He said that Sindh province has already informed the federal government about its objections on Jalalpur Canal project but work is going on in spite of opposition to this project. Water shortage scenario in Sindh is sliding from bad to worse and after construction of the Thal canal, the agriculture system will be annihilated.
