Emma Heming Willis spoke openly about seeking support following the public revelation of her husband Bruce Willis’ diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
During her participation in the AFTD 2024 Education Conference, the model-actor shared her feelings of relief and the importance of finding assistance after her husband’s diagnosis was made known.
In a clip from the event posted on Instagram, Emma expressed, “I could breathe. I could really exhale and sort of just feel this weight lift from my shoulders.”
She further elaborated, emphasizing the positive change that occurred once they disclosed Bruce’s diagnosis, enabling her to access the support she desperately needed for her husband and their family.
Additionally, Emma, who has been actively advocating for FTD awareness and offering encouragement to caregivers, stated, “My mission is to raise as much awareness of FTD as I can.”
She expressed her aspiration for the development of treatments and ultimately a cure for the disease.
Regarding Bruce’s condition progressing from Aphasia to FTD, the family released a statement acknowledging Bruce’s enduring joy in life and the outpouring of love and support they have received. They expressed gratitude for the compassion, understanding, and respect shown, which enables them to support Bruce in living as full a life as possible.
