BADIN: Experts underline the need to expedite the efforts on resolving the WASH-specific public issues in district Badin.

The control and solution of the water, sanitation & Hygiene specific issues and hurdles faced by the local people, especially in rural areas should be highlighted through the different public forums. Government and International organizations should heed to resolve the public WASH related genuine issues.

These views were expressed by the speakers during the ‘Public Dialogue’ event organized by Water Aid Pakistan in collaboration with Laar Humanitarian and Development Program (LHDP) at Gym Khana on Tuesday.

Speaking in the event speakers said that the current situation of drinking water and drainage system in the district needs to pay heed for resolving the issues on prior basis.

Speaking on this occasion, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh on Information Technology, Tanzila Ume Habiba said that providing the facilities to the public and other basic rights and facilities including drinking water, drainage, health and education are on the priority of the provincial Government. Though the resources are limited but Sindh Government is striving hard to provide the basic facilities, she added. She said that until the country’s economic situation improves, it is difficult to overwhelm the issues but not impossible.

Tanzila Ume Habiba said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Government is taking tangible and practical measures on such projects of providing the basic rights and facilities to the people, and for the elimination of unemployment.

Sindh Government has initiated the Benazir Income Support Program for the eradication of poverty and providing free and modern treatment facilities to the poor people of the province.

Provincial Government has installed filter plants all over Sindh, including Tharparkar and Badin, to provide clean drinking water and the first priority of Sindh Govt is to provide basic rights and facilities to the people, she added.

Rajoo Qureshi, Exin, Public Health Engineering Department Badin said that there 131 ROs & Filter Plants in Badin district among 81 are functional when 21 were repaired.

Work was being done on two more drinking water supply schemes in Badin and one drainage scheme in Matli, he added.

On the occasion, Rahima Panhwar, Provincial Coordinator, WaterAid Sindh, Iqbal Hyder, Executive Director, LHDP, Sawan Khaskheli, Coordinator, LHDP briefed the participants with details and figures over the issues and hurdles faced by the common people in connection with drinking water, sewage system and Hygiene and its way forward.

On the Occasion, Tanweer Ahmed Arain, President, Badin Press Club, Haji Mehmood Ghuman, President, Awan-e-Sahafat, Professor, Dr. Tufail Ahmed Chandio, Dr. Hassan Soomro, Sajida Talpur, Tarique Ahmed Noonari, Sayed Zakir Ali Shah, District Manager, PPHI, Qadir Bux Talpur, Assistant District Education Officer, Farha Qambrani, Zulekhan Notkani and others also addressed the participants.
