Inflation, inflation and inflation

By: Gul Afroz Soomro

Even after thing for several hundred times I am unable to understand what the PTI led government wants to do? Inflation, inflation and inflation. The storm of inflation that has been raging for the last three years is not going away. OGRA has proposed to the government to increase the price of petrol by Rs 11.50, high speed diesel by Rs 2.40, kerosene by Rs 1.5 and light diesel by Rs 1.40 per liter from July 16 (today). This will be the case for the next fortnight as in the past, while the trend of increasing the prices of most petroleum products under the formula of revision twice a month is prevailing. According to one estimate, petrol prices have risen by a total of Rs 38 per liter in the last 12 months as electricity, petrol and gas are necessities whose prices directly and indirectly affect transport and essential commodities, such as energy. The prices of rice are constantly rising, it has become impossible for the people crushed in the mill of inflation to eat dry food twice a day. Meanwhile, the IMF also demanded further increase in electricity prices. Due to the fact that due to the massive consumption of petroleum products, the government derives a large portion of its revenue from these sources. However, this whole situation negates the thinking of Prime Minister Imran Khan that he has to control inflation. On some occasions he has even rejected the summary of increase in prices of petroleum products. This is still a proposal of OGRA and is expected. It is said that they will not accept this summary out of concern for the people due to inflation
