Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has condemned the arrest of Ali Wazir, a member of the National Assembly and leader of the Pashtun Tehreek Movement (PTM), calling it “contrary to democratic traditions”.
In his statement, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that meetings and public rallies are not a crime to arrest anyone on the basis of it.
He said that the case registered against public representatives and political leaders was baseless and against democratic traditions, adding that if the state continued to restrict freedom of expression, it would not yield good results.
He said that it has been the practice of fascist governments in the world to suppress the voice of the people by registering cases against their representatives and arresting them.
