Shikarpur: Civil society demands justice for assaulted reporter Adeel Alvi

In a bold demonstration of solidarity, members of civil society, journalists, and political activists gathered at Ghanta Ghar Chowk in Shikarpur to demand justice for Adeel Alvi, a senior journalist reportedly assaulted in a shocking incident of press freedom infringement.

The protest, organized in response to the brutal attack on Adeel Alvi, Chief Reporter of Daily News, saw a fervent outcry against the assault allegedly orchestrated by Madagar incharge Khalil Laghari and 15 Madagar personnel. Sources indicate that the incident unfolded as Alvi was pursuing a public matter and attempted to question Laghari, only to face physical violence and torture.

During the protest, prominent figures including Agha Munir Pathan, Adeel Alvi, Afzal Sheikh, Hameer Chandio, Agha Fahad Pathan, Rashid Hussain Shah, Zahid Bhanbhro, Fasllullah Norani, Abdul Samee Bhatti, Sultan Rind, Abdul Wahab Kaghzi, Zafar Channa, Adeel Mehr, Zafar Alvi, Rashid Lashari, Imran Mangi and others voiced their concerns over the impunity with which the assailants continue to operate. They highlighted the suspension of involved officers as insufficient, pointing out that these individuals still hold their positions, with no progress made in launching a formal inquiry.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the response from authorities, the protestors accused the SSP of showing bias towards the perpetrators. They warned of escalating protests, potentially leading to the blockade of the Indus Highway if concrete action, including the registration of FIR against the culprits, is not taken promptly.
