Prevailing conditions of welfare organizations

By: Fiza Jamali

The welfare trust organizations are also regarded as nonprofit organizations, or any nonprofit public benefit corporation organized to improve lives. The welfare trusts working all over the world since the mid of 18th century. The charity from the prosperous people of society, these charities or welfare trusts, are accountable for health, education, and housing for those in need. The core aim is serving humanity and advancing lives.
There are numbers of registered organizations that are working in the Sindh for the furtherance of people. The donors are ensured that each penny they donate will be spent on the indigent society, but sorry to say today, many do not work on aims and objectives of welfare trust or charity organizations. Today they are charging more than the private departments working in the same field; their intention has been changed from the services to indigent to the commercial level. These welfare organizations have been aided from exempted taxes from the government.
There should be a proper check and balance of funding from their institutes, and proper audits should be taken. If they want to enjoy the adequate profit, they can change their welfare or nonprofit organization into a private institute to enjoy the profit. Since their establishment, they are charging unreasonably high rates on either welfare schools, hospitals, or universities, representing a clear violation of rules.
We pray to chief justice Sindh and the government of Sindh to take notice of welfare trust or nonprofit organizations violating the basic rules of providing the services to local people and further requested for their audit of funds received from national or internal people/agency.
