Inflation: Solid measures needed!

By: Muhammad Ahmad Qureshi

Although the every government claims to work for the betterment of the poor yet measures takin by them never show that the claim is valid. Same is the situation with the current so called Tabdeeli government. During the week ended July 8, prices of 23 essential commodities increased, 9 declined and 19 remained stable, according to the Federal Bureau of Statistics. The overall inflation rate stood at 12.28 per cent, up 0.07 per cent from the previous seven consecutive days. Although the recent rise in energy prices in the country is a common cause of inflation, the taxes imposed on all products cannot be ignored in this regard. Trying to break can be pointless. It covers everything from building materials, transportation to household items, medical treatment, educational institution fees, house rents, and even funerals. With the recent tax hike in the budget, the overall rate of deduction on a telephone call has further increased to 40%, which is a common man’s need today. Undoubtedly, Prime Minister Imran Khan has a constant hand on the pulse of inflation. He wants to see a reduction in it. However, superficial measures cannot give the desired results. This needs further reflection.
