Senate election: Yousuf Raza Gilani defeats govt candidate Hafiz Sheikh

The contest between former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Finance Minister Hafiz Sheikh on the general seat of Islamabad in the Senate election came to light.
Yousuf Raza Gilani succeeded to the general seat. According to the returning officer, 340 votes were cast, out of which Yousuf Raza Gilani got 169 votes while Hafiz Sheikh got 164 votes. According to the Returning Officer, 7 votes were rejected.

Voting took place in the National Assembly on the general seat of Islamabad, in which opposition Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was successful. Govt re-voted but Yousuf Raza Gilani was successful in re-voting too.

There was a contest between Farzana Kausar of the PML-N and Fauzia Arshad of the PTI on the women’s seat from Islamabad. In this contest, Fauzia Arshad got 174 votes and Senators were elected.
