Union Councils are the base line of democratic process: Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto

KHAIRPUR: A Certificates Distribution Ceremony was held at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur which was jointly organized by the Marvi Rural Development Organization (MRDO) in collaboration with office of the Dean Faculty of Social Sciences under the project Raising Awareness through Community Engagement in Local Governance”. It is recalled that under this project, a close linkage between Local Government, Youth, Minority Women of local communities at the Union Council Ubhri was held. Under this project, extensive virtual training of 30 male and 30 female youth and 30 persons of minority from Union Council Ubhri availed training on Leadership, Social Skills, Gender Mainstreaming, Women Empowerment and Sindh Transparency and Right to Information Act-2016, Sindh Local Government Act-2013 and Sindh Hindo Marriage Amendment Act-2018.

Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Talking to the participants of the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that the Union Councils are the base line of democratic process because the basic democracy starts from Union Council level. He said the initiative taken by the MRDO is significant for creating awareness about the functions and duties of the Councilors because they are responsible to redress the grievances of the masses at grassroots level as far as Municipal Services are concerned. Dr. Ibupoto said I am optimistic that trainees will perform their duties properly.

Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences said that MRDO is striving for the promotion of women empowerment, youth development, gender sensitization and to elevate social suffering of marginalize masses particular for rural women. Dr. Lashari appreciated the untiring efforts and patronage of Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto for organizing co-curricular activities at the campus aimed at to equip the youth with modern trends of teaching and learning skills.

Mr. Salman Ali Program Manager MRDO, Sukkur briefed that we have successfully implemented 66 different projects focusing on diversified areas i.e. women empowerment, access to justice, primary education, political education, rule of law, peace & harmony, and health. He also extended his cordial thanks to Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto for sparing his precious time from his hectic engagements and grace the event as chief guest.

Shields among the guests and certificates among the trainees were distributed.

Ms. Saira Ali, Project Coordinator MRDO, Prof. Dr. Amir Ali Chandio, Chairman Department of Political Science, Prof. Dr. Amir Ahmed Khuhro, Director Institute of I.R, Dr. Abdul Manan Shaikh, Chairman Department of Zoology, Dr. Inayatullah Bhatti, Incharge, Department of Pakistan Studies, Mr. Tanveer Mangnejo, Mr. Zohaib Memon, Secretary to Vice Chancellor, Mr. Iqbal Phulpoto, Mr. Adeel Shaikh, Mr. Zafar Phulpoto, Deputy Director Local Government, Mr. Naresh Kumar, Mr. Muhammad Dino Naich, Former U.C Chairman and others attended the ceremony.
