Sujawal: A middle-aged woman was killed when a roof of the house collapsed in Belo town of district Sujawal after widespread rain battered different parts of the district here on Thursday.
According to sources Jati, Hussainabad, Tarr Khowaja, Chuhar Jamali, Raj Malik, Begna, Daro, and Mirpur Bathoro received moderate to heavy rain.
Though the mercury across the district dropped and the weather turned pleasant, the unexpected, intermittent rainfall caused power suspension that brought the routine life to a grinding halt.
Light showers started in the afternoon and intensified into a downpour coupled with thunderstorms that continued till 9: PM in the night. It was the first heavy spell of monsoon in the district.
Meanwhile different areas of district Thatta including Ongar, Malmari, Makli, Var, and Mripursakro received moderate to heavy rain on Thursday however no rain-related incident was reported from any area of the district till late night.
The spell of torrential rain has brought writ large happiness on the faces of growers in both the districts who were eagerly waiting for a miracle as their land turned infertile owing to the long-standing water crisis in the Larr region of Sindh.
According to growers, the rain would make their lands more ideal for paddy cultivation. Paddy requires more water as compared to other seasonal crops and the rain would be beneficial for it.
