SHIKARPUR:A program was organized to pay tribute to legendary poet Shaikh Ayaz on his 25th Death Anniversary at Shaikh Ayaz University Shikarpur. The program started with recitation of Holy Quran. Mr. Bahktiar Ahmed, Additional Registrar Academics welcomed all the participants who were present physically and online. Mr. Omer Jan, student of Education Department of the University presented Viaee of Shaikh Ayaz (Tri Pawanda Tarian). It was followed by very informative talk by great scholar Mr. Inam Shaikh. The title of his talk was “Shaikh Ayaz and impact of his poetry on Sindh”. Mr. Inam in his talk briefed that Shaikh Ayaz was iconic poet of the Subcontinent whose poetry is for all times. He further added that there are five phases of renowned poet, the era, his grooming period, Independence and Professional Excellence. He portrayed historical circumstances and conditions of Sindh and Subcontinent in times of Shaikh Ayaz. He said that Shaikh Ayaz Poetry is matchless and it was also recognized by his contemporary Poets and Scholars. Furthermore he added that Shaikh Ayaz was basically Poet of Romance, Art and Revolution. Although, his poetry’s impact was huge but mainly, he revived history of Sindh, Modern Sindhi Nationalism, Revolution and Humanism.
Insight talk by Mr. Inam Shaikh was followed by Viaee of Shaikh Ayaz (Raat Aaie Wae) presented by students Ms. Shazia and Mr. Kashif Mahar. In his concluding remarks, Vice Chancellor Dr. G. Raza Bhatti paid rich tribute to Shaikh Ayaz. He said Shaikh Ayaz is not a mono-thematic poet but his poetry contained diverse themes in accordance with the amount of culture, nature, romance and political ponderings of his time. The poetry of learned poet sparks consciousness describing our awareness of internal and external stimuli. Awareness of internal stimuli includes feeling pain, love, hunger, thirst, sleepiness, and being aware of our thoughts and emotions, the fulcrum of all his wisdom is DHARTI (planet and people).
Shaikh Ayaz University is the climax of his success, initiated from the university named University of Sindh for whom he remained Vice Chancellor. The same university had given birth to Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur and eventually Shaikh Ayaz university emerged from it. We are blessed with such classical development of educational institutions in this part of Pakistan. The Slogan of Shaikh Ayaz University is “The revival of educational glory of Shikarpur” . We have stepped in and moved fast forward in accomplishment to undertake tasks.
In the end, he thanked all the participants and admired Mr. Inam Shaikh for his intellectual insight with reference to Shaikh Ayaz, a son of Soil. He announced that the Birthday of Shaikh Ayaz will be celebrated 2nd March 2023 in collaboration with the Culture, Tourism & Antiquities Department, Govt. of Sindh.
