400 MW hybrid energy project is a great achievement of Sindh Govt: Imtiaz Sheikh

KARACHI: Sindh initiated Pakistan’s first Business to Business 400 MW hybrid power project: Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh
Memorandum of Understanding signed between Engro Energy, Sindh Energy Department, Directorate of Alternative Energy and Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company for 400 MW Hybrid Energy Project.

Sindh Minister for Energy Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah are encouraging every effort to promote alternative and renewable energy so that the energy problem in the country can be resolved. Pakistan is also a country, which is having outstanding performance in the world regarding green energy.
He said that the agreement with Engro Energy on the 400 MW hybrid energy project is a clear proof that the Sindh government was taking serious steps to address energy issues.
He was addressing the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a 400 MW Hybrid Energy Project between Engro Energy, Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company and the Department of Alternative Energy of the Department of Energy as a special guest, at a local hotel in Karachi.
Under the agreement, Engro Energy Limited will set up a 400 MW hybrid energy project in Jhampir.
The project will generate electricity from wind and solar energy and supply it to local industries. As per the agreement, Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company, a grid company of the Sindh Energy Department, will lay a transmission line to deliver 400 MW of electricity to local industries.
The Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by CEO Engro Mr. Shahab Qadir, Director Alternate Energy Imtiaz Shah and Chief Executive Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company Saleem Shaikh, while Secretary Energy Mr Abu Bakar Ahmed, Chief of Engro Mr. Ahsan Zafar Syed and officials of other concerned agencies were also present.
It was informed on the occasion that the 400 MW power generated from this project would be the cheapest power and its price per unit could be up to Rs. 8.
It was informed that this hybrid energy project is the first of its kind in partnership with the private sector.
It was informed in the briefing that the 400 MW hybrid energy project run by the private sector will be able to play an important role in the development of local industries because the cheapest electricity will be available to boost local industries and they will be able to sell their products easily in the globally competitive market.
