BADIN: The large number of growers, civil society, citizens and people from different walks of life hailing from different towns, cities and villages of the district Badin, took out rally against acute water shortage in Badin district on Sunday.
The rally began from Allah Wala chowk and culminated in front of Badin Press Club led by Abdullah Chandio, Azizullah Dero, Wahid Chandio, Mir Lakhi, Atta Chandio, Hyder Shah and others.
While addressing the protest rally representatives said the growers of Badin district including of those coastal belt and tail end were partially suffered of persisting acute water scarcity for long and the economic survival of hundreds of growers, peasants and associated individuals was hanging in despair.
They said deliberate unjustified supply of water by Irrigation department and irrelevant interest of federal government has created worsen situation and agro yield was badly affected. The representatives said crops were damaged entirely while pet animals were being suffered.
The growers said water theft by influential was also phenomena which have snatched the right of growers and those involved in illegal practice were not held.
The representatives alleged that illegal direct outlets approved through influence has made growers were disappointed of such improper approach to in-justify growers. The representatives said paddy crop was especially affected of prolonged water shortage for more than four years saying that poverty and unemployment was increasing day by day across the district. They said elected representatives were claiming to raise voice but they were not justified.
On the other hand, the growers of Ali Abad branch near Dei of Tando Bago also held protest demonstration against illegal obstacles along the branch and water scarcity. They demanded supply of irrigation water to save agro economy.
