PPP’s Ameer Ali Shah wins Umerkot by-election

UMERKOT: The candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party Syed Ameer Ali Shah trounced former CM Sindh and candidate of (Grand Democratic Alliance) GDA in PS- 52 Umerkot by-elections held on Monday. The seat fell vacant following the death of Syed Ali Mardan Shah.
The winning candidate of PPP secured 55, 904 votes while his opponent and arch-rival of PPP Arbab Ghulam Rahim managed to secure 30,921 votes. Ameer Ali Shah retained the seat of his father for PPP, convincingly with the decisive lead of 24,983 votes.
The atmosphere remained peaceful across the constituency except four polling stations from where clashes were reported, however, the voting process was affected following those clashes. Around 12 people who were supporters of PPP had been injured in those clashes; sources told.
Arbab Ghulam Rahim who is considered Arch-Rival of PPP in Tharparkar decided to lock horns with the PPP candidate on PS-52 that was not his native constituency, despite that analysts were not ruling out the possibility of a close encounter between the two.
