THATTA: Like other parts of the country the land of Thatta has produced highly skillful and talented artists who left an unceasing impact on their fans through their performance in their respective fields Javed Brohi of Junghshai a historical town of district Thatta is one of those. He is a mimicry artist and a sketch maker who crafts sketches of the renowned personalities of the country on X-Ray prints with absolute mastery.
The talented artist earned the accolade and attention of people on the occasion of the 68th Birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of Pakistan and slain PPP leader Benazir Bhutto when he posted a video on his social media account in which he was mimicking the former PM. Following his overnight fame, this correspondent visited Jungshahi to meet him and learn more about him.
While talking to this correspondent he said that; he was 18 years old when he for the first time met Mohtrama B.B Shaheed when she was on her visit to Jugnshahi as part of the election campaign in 1987. “I was so moved by her charismatic personality and became her diehard fan”; he said adding that since that meeting he started practicing her voice and by the passage of time became proficient in impersonating her.
People used to ask me to mimic BB Shaheed in different Political gatherings and events and by performing constantly I became fluent at mimicking her; he said. He said that For the first time Fazlullah Pechoho the then-District Commissioner of Thatta gave him the chance to perform at Makli Gymkhana on the occasion of Pakistan People,s Party,s Youm-e-Tastes and Mr. Pechoho promised him to give him a job but two days later the PPP Government was dissolved.
The forgotten artist said that he could mimic Parvez Musharaf, Zia-ul-Haq, Rasool Bux Palijo, few BBC Urdu news anchors, and other renowned personalities but Benazir’s voice made him famous. Besides that, he can carve out sketches on X-Ray films. He urged the Sindh Government to provide him assistance for coming out of financial constraints that he is facing for the past 12 years.
