By: Jan Odhano

JACOBABAD: The “We Need a University” campaign launched by civil society for the establishment of a university in Jacobabad has become a top trend on social media at the local level. According to the details, the “University Two” campaign launched by the civil society for the establishment of a university in Jacobabad for the last three years has now gained momentum. “The trend is running very fast on social media at the moment with a large number of people from all over the district participating, demanding from the city government of Jacobabad that Shah Abdul Latif University in Jacobabad Or Sindh University campus to be established -In this regard, the youth of the most backward districts of Sindh in terms of education can also get higher education. PPP Shaheed Bhutto leader Nadeem Qureshi, Advocate GM Soomro, social leader Nadeem Behrani, journalist Zahid Hussain Rind, Communist Party comrade Gul Mastoi, Naseebullah Hanbhi, Abdullah Magsi, Khadim Odhano, Gul Baledi and others said that they have been campaigning for the establishment of a university in Jacobabad for the last three years and has informed the government representatives many times in this regard and requested them to make efforts for the establishment of a university in Jacobabad district but unfortunately for three years the decision to set up a campus of Mehran University in Jacobabad was taken three years ago and a notification was issued, A place was also fixed for campus in Jacobabad but then due to political interference the management of university left here disappointed and it was cancelled. They further said that the government itself had announced that universities would be set up in every district of Sindh to make education universal. After such announcement of the government, university campuses were set up in most of the districts of Sindh but Jacobabad still waiting to fulfil the decision. They said that an estimated 6,000 students graduate from public and private colleges in Jacobabad every year but due to lack of university they are deprived of higher education. Most of the students are poor. Can’t afford to go to university outside the city so they pass 12th class and sit at home. There are few students who go to university for higher education if there is a university campus in Jacobabad. They said that activists of social organizations and journalists were participating in the “University” campaign but it was unfortunate that the politicians of Jacobabad were away from the campaign even though Federal Minister Mohammad Mian Soomro and Provincial Minister Mir Ijaz Hussain Jakhrani are from Jacobabad. They should have taken part in the campaign but they are unaware of it. They demanded that the campus of Shah Abdul Latif University or Sindh University in Jacobabad be established so that the poor students of Jacobabad can also get higher education.
