It is the need of the time to curb and eliminate the drug trafficking: Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto

KHAIRPUR: Ph. D Open Defense Seminar was held in the Institute of International Relations, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur presided over by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto. Ph. D Research Scholar Ms. Hina Khan defended her study on the topic “Drug Trafficking and Security Challenges for Pakistan and Afghanistan (2000-2010); A Case Study of Cross Border Infiltration” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Amir Ahmed Khuhro, Director Institute of International Relations and co-supervision of Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad Choudhry.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that the research topic of the scholar pertains to social issue. It has also relevance with political, economic side of the topic. Drug trafficking is an illegal act which has disturbed the peace along both sides of the borders. It is the need of the time to curb and eliminate the drug trafficking. United Nations Drug Control Program and other nations may play their key role in this regard.
Ms. Hina Khan said that the main objectives of my research study is to highlight the main challenges between Pakistan and Afghanistan and reduce the cross border infiltration, to understand the drug trafficking from Afghanistan to Pakistan and the related crime and consequences that Pakistan has to face.

Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences said that the biggest question at the moment is that would it be appreciated to eradicate the narcotics from the region and to take drastic measures for the rehabilitation of the narcotic addicted people.

Prof. Dr. Amir Ahmed Khuhro and Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad Choudhry said that the research scholars has conducted the research on logical, inductive and quality approaches. Moreover, primary as well as secondary sources have been used.

Research Experts Prof. Dr. Abdul Wadood from Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering & Management Sciences, Quetta, and Prof. Dr. Yasmeen Roofi from The Islamia University Bahalwalpur also shared their views. They said the issue of human security arising in the region is highly serious. All the components of human security are posing threats to masses living both sides of Durand Line. They appreciated the work of conducted by the scholar.
Prof. Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, Director Postgraduate Studies conducted the proceedings of the seminar. The seminar was declared as successful. A large number of teachers and research scholars attended the seminar.
