Prolonged water shortage sparks growers to hold token strike in Badin

BADIN: The large number of growers of Kadhan sub division, Mir wah sub division and Kazia sub division, coastal belt and tail end including Seerani, Kadhan, Bhugra Memon, Golo Mandhro, Behdmi, Ahmed Rajo, Sheikh Kirhio and other parts of the district paid token hunger strike in front of Badin Press Club against prevailing acute water shortage.
The hunger strike camp established led by Haji Sher Jamali, Lala Nawaz Sheikh, Syed Raza Muhammad Shah, Abdul Ghafoor Chandio, Mir Wahid Bux Birohi, Haji Hanif Khaskheli, Nazeer Khaskheli, Ali Muhammad Soomro, Dr. Abdul Ghani Notiar, Gul Muhammad Gurgez, Ashraf Bajeer, Amanat Chandio and other growers.
While talking with media personnel the representatives of growers said water shortage has caused economic murder of hundreds of growers across the district. They said inhabitants of coastal belt and tail end were facing miserable circumstances to quench their thirst while pet animals were dying of such prolonged water scarcity.
The representatives said deliberate water shortage for many months has destroyed the crops and fertile soils were damaged adding that incompetency of SIDA and Irrigation department has caused water was theft and installation of illegal lift machines and pipes by influentials ruined the agro economy leading poverty and unemployment was increasing day by day.
The representatives demanded early supply of water to growers of coastal belt, tail end and other canals and branches of Badin district to secure future of people of Badin district. They also demanded legal action against those involved in water theft.
