Speakers Express Grave Concerns Over Increase of Drug Consumption at a Seminar Organized by AIOU

THATTA: Writers, Poets, teachers, social activists and people hailing from different walks of life have voiced serious concerns over the increase in sale and consumption of narcotics in district Thatta. Speaking at a seminar organized by Allama Iqbal Open University in collaboration with other social organizations of the district at Government high school Thatta speakers said that it was quite unfortunate that a large number of youth was falling prey to this life taking addiction and the quarters concerned had kept mum over this extremely serious issue.

Director Regional Affairs AIOU Mr. Aftab Ahmed said that the habit of consuming drugs was playing havoc in our society and our young generation he said had been the most affected class of the society by this addiction. He told the audience that around 46000 youth were dying of drug consumption every day but neither the government nor the social organization were taking measures against such an alarming situation.

Poet and educationist Noor Sarai said that it was high time to educate children regarding the perilous effects of drug consumption adding that sports events and other healthy activities should be organized by the government and non-governmental organizations to keep the young generation away from this imprecation.

“We must realize that a mass awareness is required to educate our society regarding the harmful impacts that drug abuse has left on our society” said social activist KK Shoro. He further said that social scientists, psychologists and doctors jointly should work on purging out this abuse from our society.

The speakers also drew the attention of participants towards the core issue of global warming and environmental hazards that the people globally were facing. They said that deforestation was a major cause behind increasing environmental hazards. They stressed the need for tree plantation for a healthy and fertile environment.
