Artificial sugar crisis!

By: Saifullah Sargani

A month and a half ago, the price of sugar was 93 rupees per kilogram across the country. Its price has increased to 135 rupees. It is available in abundance, neither the crushing season nor the rise in dollar and energy prices has anything to do with rising sugar prices on a daily basis. Taking notice of the situation, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed action against those responsible. According to reports, profiteers and smuggling mafia have stored millions of sacks which are gradually being smuggled to Afghanistan. According to the media report, opportunistic people have made a profit of 115 billion rupees in a few days from the current crisis of sugar, in the light of which it will not be out of place to say that if the stored sugar is not exported by conducting a proper crackdown, smuggling will occur. As the price continues to increase, people will forget about its recent prices. Bakery items, sweets and beverages, which have already doubled in price compared to last year, will further increase in price. According to sources, the prices of sugar in the market are determined by the people associated with its industry and trade. The additional profit of crores of rupees obtained from this open exemption is causing a loss to the national exchequer apart from the inconvenience of the consumers because the FBR does not receive tax on unregistered sugar under the track and trace system. In light of the strict instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with the investigation into the abnormal export of sugar abroad and the subsequent artificial crisis against the ground realities, the relevant departments should cover all aspects to relieve the people who are suffering from inflation. should
