Senior PPP leader senator Dr. Sikandar Mandhro passes away

BADIN: Senior Leader of Pakistan Peoples Party and veteran politician of Pakistan, Senator Dr. Sikandar Mandhro passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness. Senior PPP leader Senator Dr. Mandhro was diagnosed with renal cancer and was under treatment in a hospital in the United States.

Mandhro’s family told local media outlets that the body will be flown back to his homeland after three days. He would be buried in his ancestral village Mataro Mandhro near Badin after completion of his funeral proceedings. The deceased leaves behind his wife and two

Dr. Mandhro got married in 1972 with Dr. Khalida Sikander and have 2 children Zakrya Mandhro, working at Google and Umaima Mandhro, founder on Oneleague University.

Several leaders including President Dr. Arif Alvi, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Senator Sasui Palijo and PPP Information Secretary Sindh, Aajiz Dhamrah and others have condoled the death of PPP stalwart.

Bilawal called him the most trusted and faithful representative of the people of Badin, saying his loyalty to the PPP spanned 3 generations. He always spoke for party workers, worked for the poor & fought for democracy, Bilawal twitted earlier on Social Media.

Dr. Sikandar Mandhro was born on 7th of July 1941 in village Mattaro Mandhro, Golarchi district Badin. His father, Tharoo Khan Mandhro, has his roots linked to Tajjan Mandhro, one of the rulers of Mughal Dynasty.

Dr. Sikandar Mandhro started his political career with PPP and was a great supporter of Shaheed Zulfiquar Ali Bhutto. He remained loyal to PPP from Z.A Bhutto’s time to Bilawal Bhutto PPP’s chairmanship. He has been MPA for 5 times on the seats of provincial assembly and faced tough times and exile to Saudi for 10 years in Zia ul Haq regime. Dr. Sikandar also remained president of PPP Badin even before and after exile and was removed after Benazir’s death.

In 1994 under Sayed Abdullah Shah’s time he became Minister of corporate and later in 2013 he became Minister of Law and Heath, and senator in 2018.
