THATTA: The key accused Rafique Chandio involved in the desecration of a teenage girl Amina was gunned down in an alleged police encounter near Babra area of district Thatta late Saturday night.
According to sources police received information regarding his presence near Gharo and raided his hideout. Upon seeing a strong contingent of Police marching towards him he opened indiscriminate fires on them but the police in retaliation shot him dead within the vicinity of Gharo Police station whose SHO Mumtaz Brohi led the operation.
Earlier SSP Thatta Dr. Imran Khan formed an investigation team to probe into the matter and submitted a report. According to that report, the body of a teenage girl was subjected to desecration.
Acting upon the direction issued by the SSP district Police conducted raids on hideouts and arrested many suspects but in the evening they got a tip-off regarding the presence of key accused Rafique Chandio, additional Police force was called in to meet any eventuality. An FIR was registered against him under Section 376, 297 of the Pakistan Penal Code followed by sections 6 and 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act 1997.
Sharing his views regarding the appalling incident renowned lawyer and human rights activist Shabbir Kumbhar said that the barbaric incident had opened the eyes of every right-thinking member of the society. Talking about the scope of the crime he said that the current criminal justice system had no provision regarding these brutal incidents as a result of that accused were either acquitted for want of evidence or got less severe punishments. He urged the legal fraternity of the country to play their part for reforms in the Criminal Justice System.
