Protest Held Against DC Sujawal

By: Kamran Khamiso Khowaja
SUJAWAL:  Members of All Parties Action Committee, social activists, members of civil society, and people from different walks of life converged at the public park Sujawal to stage a protest demonstration against abuse of power by the district commissioner Sujawal Mohammad Ismail Memon who has been allegedly involved in massive corruption and embezzlement of funds issued by the Sindh Government for the development of Sujawal District.
The protesters took out a rally from a public park to the DC office where they staged a sit-in leading to suspension of traffic for around two hours in the city. Leaders of All Parties Action Committee including Younous Ban, Hussain Azad, Wahid Khaskeli, Nisar Memon, and others lashed out at DC for his negligent attitude toward the issue. They alleged that large-scale corruption by the chief executive of the district had triggered many issues in the district and poor people of the area were not getting their due rights.
Addressing the sit-in Younous Ban said that DC was a native inhabitant of the Sujawal district despite that he had failed miserably to address the grievances of the people of this district. Fake domiciles had been issued under his patronage that deprived 100 of thousands of educated youth of job opportunities; he alleged. People would no more tolerate a corrupt DC; he held.
Hussain Azad accused DC of tempering revenue records to facilitate influential figures of the area and said that the revenue department had been made the hub of corruption from where DC and his facilitators were minting the money.
People of this district were tired of district commissioners’ unabated corruption that had led to crisis-like situations in the area, said Wahid Khaskeli, adding that DC remained tight-lipped over the non-judicious supply of the water in the district and never took action against such a serious issue.
They demanded transfer of the district commissioner and warned to launch a campaign against the district commissioner if their demand was not addressed.
