Inflation control mechanism needed

By: Abdul Rehman Qureshi

There is no doubt that the present government has been taking various measures to control inflation since coming to power, but so far no significant results have been achieved. Whether it’s the headlines of the past year or the ongoing debates on electronic and social media, inflation has been in the headlines as well as a major national and public issue. According to a report by the Voice of America, inflation rose to 14% in January last year, the highest in 10 years. The Federal Bureau of Statistics recorded an inflation rate of 9.04% in September last year. Inflation in Pakistan has been fluctuating. However, controlling inflation is still a challenge for the government. Prime Minister Imran Khan and his team are working to control inflation for which the Prime Minister has approved the Decision Support System for Inflation (DSSI) which records the prices of essential commodities in 17 major cities of the country. And will monitor. Under this system, the prices of goods collected from the markets of 17 cities and the prices fixed by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office should be compared.

Will Apart from gathering market information, the system will also help the concerned Deputy Commissioners in evaluating their performance in controlling inflation. This is a good move by Prime Minister Imran Khan to control inflation as Pakistan Inflation is feared to be among the highest in Asia, so Prime Minister Imran Khan and his team will be able to build public confidence if they manage to control inflation. But it will not be difficult to gain public support to overcome any political crisis.
